Fla. Bar Website: Creating Greater Transparency

Art Levy | 9/1/2007
Investigating the disciplinary history of a Florida attorney used to involve contacting the Florida Bar and requesting the information. But after an August update Of the Bar’s website, the information is available immediately to anyone with access to a computer.

Tim Sullivan, a member of the Bar’s executive committee, says the site will include descriptions of each time the Bar disciplined an attorney during the past 10 years. Examples will include official admonishments, reprimands, suspensions and disbarments.

Disciplinary actions beyond 10 years won’t be posted but will still be available by contacting the Bar. “We thought the most important information to people would be in that 10-year window,” Sullivan says.
